Wannebo Road Construction News

Construction on Wannebo Road between Ondossagon Road going east to Chequamegon Heights (2 miles)

This project will involve pulverizing the existing pavement, then applying a new asphalt surface. Construction is expected to be between July 29 through just before Labor Day.

Pulverizing is set to begin by the contractor, Northwoods Paving, on Monday July 29.  The entire old asphalt surface, including the shoulders on both sides of the road will be ground up, utilizing the old materials for base underneath the new asphalt layer.

Road construction signs and staking for the project will be put up before July 29th. The pulverizing process will take 3 to 4 days, and will then be left to settle for one week before laying down the new asphalt.

Wannebo Road will be open during construction with flaggers controlling traffic through one-way sections.

Construction Hours of Operation:

The contractors will be operating from dawn to dusk between Monday and Friday. Some construction may occur on Saturday. During this time, there will be additional noise from heavy equipment such as dump trucks, pulverizing equipment and asphalt laying.

Motorists are advised to use an alternate route to avoid the construction zone. Reduce your speed if traveling through the construction zone, especially after the pavement has been pulverized to avoid kicking up gravel. Please obey all posted signs and instructions from flaggers.

Update: As of the end of the week on 08/23/2024 the shoulders were completed. This was the last part of the project, so it is now completed.

Letter to Residents regarding Snowplowing – 3/23

Town Residents

As you are all aware we are experiencing a long, hard winter. The last few weeks have been particularly difficult. Just as you are individually having difficulty finding places to put the snow, so is the town crew. While it may feel that they are deliberately plowing snow into your driveways, they are trying to knock down the large banks so that you can see if there are cars coming as you pull out. This snow is particularly wet and heavy, leaving larger banks and chunks. I can assure you that they are not putting more snow into driveways of those who have called with concerns.

The board will discuss options on how to deal with this problem. In the meantime, as you are clearing your driveway, put as much of the snow, as possible, onto your property away from the main road and put snow to the right side (when you exit) of your driveway.

To keep everyone safe, the town needs to continue to wing out the roads and push the big banks back in preparation for the next snow. We apologize for the additional work required to keep your driveways open.

The good news is that it is the middle of March and I can guarantee that spring will come soon.

No Mow May!

No Mow May is a conservation initiative, supported by the Town of Washburn, that encourages people of the township to stop mowing or mow less often for the month of May. This will create habitat and provide resources for bees and other early-season pollinators.
