NEWS RELEASE – PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

LOAD RESTRICTIONS

Pursuant to Section 348.16, Wisconsin State Statutes, the Town of Washburn will impose road restrictions beginning at 12 Noon – Thursday, March 12, 2026.

All Town of Washburn town roads will allow a 10-ton maximum weight load.

The Town of Washburn Board will be accepting applications for the position of Road Department Staff Member until 4:00 PM on Monday, March 16, 2026. 

Applicants should meet the following qualifications at a minimum.

    1. Hold a valid Wisconsin Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or be able to receive one within one year of employment.
    2. Be able to follow written and verbal directions.
    3. Be able to perform heavy physical tasks under varying working conditions.
    4. Have experience in equipment maintenance and repair including gas and diesel machinery and small engines.
    5. Have experience in the operation of trucks, heavy construction equipment, and small power tools.
    6. Be available to work on short notice.
    7. 3 years of construction/maintenance experience; road maintenance preferred
    8. Preference will be given to qualified Town of Washburn residents.

Average of 30 hours per week.

Town of Washburn Road Crew/Maintenance Worker Job Description

General Statement of Duties:  Performance in a variety of tasks involving construction maintenance and repairs to the roads of the Town of Washburn, facilities and equipment, and building maintenance.

Job Description:  The Employee will perform manual tasks in the maintenance, construction and repair of town road and right-of-ways.  The Road Maintenance Worker may operate a truck, plow, heavy equipment, hand tools, motorized equipment, mowers, tractors and various other equipment.  Assignments are supervised and outlined by the Town Board, whose Chairman and/or Supervisors will delegate duties and inspect the progress of work competed, from time to time, in conformance with established standards and specifications, safety and economy of operations.  Employees in this position are expected to exercise some judgment in work methods and planning detail.

Examples of Work: (The following duties are normal for this position.  The duties are not to be construed as exclusive or al-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned).

  1. Drive trucks, haul & stockpile dirt, gravel & salt, blacktop and fill for road repairs.
  2. Patch roads with hot and/or cold blacktop mix, resurface roads, grading roads, rolling roads, graveling roads.
  3. Check and inventory Culverts, plus check that shoulders are sufficient on all roads.
  4. Erect road signs in accordance with state requirements, install & repair, plus make/order new signs as necessary.
  5. Operate power equipment including attachments, maintain & repair equipment in good operating condition.
  6. Perform carpentry and masonry work in constructing and repairing roads.
  7. Plow snow/contracted driveways/remove snow/grading, salt and sand town roads.
  8. Pick up trash and debris, clean catch basins and remove leaves.
  9. Perform shop work, welding and carpentry work on town property.
  10. Operation of a chain saw, removing and hauling of trees, brush and stumps, plus mowing, brushing, and clearing right of ways.
  11. Do Town Hall repairs and regular cleaning, maintenance, snow shoveling/plowing.
  12. Load road ratings onto the PASER rating system of the DOT WISLR site.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by the Town Chairman and/or Town Supervisors.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of general maintenance, construction, tools and equipment, with the ability to operate heavy construction and related equipment.
  • Taking the safety precautions necessary to perform maintenance, construction and repair work.
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and practice in a least one of the building trades and of road maintenance repair.
  • Ability to perform specialized, semi-skilled maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to perform strenuous work, including heavy lifting.
  • Anticipate and respond to weather emergency events requiring road maintenance under adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Possession of a valid Wisconsin CDL driver’s license.
  • Participation required in random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Willingness to work outside of normal work hours.
  • Proficient in utilizing a computer with knowledge of Word & Excel.

 

 

2026 Dog License Information

2026 Dog Licenses – There are two different options for licensing your dog in 2026. April 1, 2026 is the deadline to license your dog.

Online – this is a new option in 2026 to license your dog online.  Please go to doglicenses.us/WI/Bayfield/ to license your dog.

–  Mail – Please go the Town of Washburn website to download the dog license application form and mail that into the Town of Washburn Treasurer, along with a copy of your rabies vaccination record and a check. Mailing address is Town of Washburn Treasurer, P.O. Box 216, Washburn, WI 54891.

You only need to provide a copy of vet papers to show proof that a dog has an up-to-date rabies vaccination.
